Chapter 874: A Divine Rank expert

“I was looking for someone like you.” There was no hostility in his tone, only a peculiar warmth, as if he had stumbled upon something rare and precious.

Then, turning slightly, he glanced toward the woman surnamed Nell, his expression softening to one of polite amusement. “It seems you’ve encountered some trouble,” he said, his laughter clear, almost gentle, carrying a peculiar charm that washed over the soul like a spring breeze after winter frost. Even in this grim, yin-soaked cavern, his presence seemed to bring light.

Nell, however, felt none of that comfort. The chilling aura that radiated from this mysterious young man unsettled her deeply, though she tried to hide it behind cold eyes and an icy tone. “Who are you?” she demanded, her knuckles whitening on the handle of her whip.

The young man didn’t flinch. He simply smiled wider, his voice calm and unshaken, as though speaking an undeniable truth. “If I were you, I’d leave here immediately.”

His words, soft and calm as they were, felt like a divine command.

Nell’s jaw clenched. She was already furious at losing the soul-nourishing grass to Max and furious at Max killing her junior brother Jamie. Giving up now? Impossible. “Don’t even think about it!” she spat.

Her whip cracked violently as it sliced through the air. But instead of striking the mysterious young man, she angled her wrist, sending the whip lashing toward Max, hoping to coil around him and drag him back. She’d take him hostage if she couldn’t kill him outright.

The mysterious young man’s smile faded into one of soft disappointment as he muttered almost playfully, “You dare to do that in front of me?” His tone carried no visible anger, but the weight behind his words was so heavy it made Max’s skin prickle.

In one graceful motion, the young man extended his right hand from the wide sleeve of his robe. It was pale white, smooth and refined, looking more like a sculpted piece of jade than a human hand. With the casualness of someone brushing dust from a table, he lifted his palm and struck forward.

“Whoosh!”

A burst of chilling wind, sharp and invisible, exploded from his hand. Nell’s eyes widened in horror just before the force slammed into her body.

“Bang!”

Her body flew backward like a broken kite, crashing heavily onto the rocky ground. The whip fell from her trembling hand, her hot red lips twisted in shock as pain coursed through her chest. Blood welled up and slipped past the corner of her mouth as she stared at the young man, her pupils trembling violently. “Divine Rank…?” she croaked, terror shattering the cold arrogance she wore moments before.

The young man’s eyes hardened slightly, his voice thundering like the wrath of heaven itself. “Get. Out.”

It wasn’t just a sound; it was a force, a roar that rippled through the yin energy, making the very rocks tremble. A powerful wave of negative energy surged from his body, sweeping outward like a crashing tide.

Nell’s face turned as pale as snow. Without a single word of defiance, she spun on her heel and ran, abandoning everything—including her desire for revenge—her graceful form vanishing into the black mist in an instant.

The young man didn’t pursue her. His sleeve flicked lightly as though nothing had happened, and the storm of energy he had unleashed instantly stilled, leaving the air unnaturally calm. His attention returned to Max, and once again he smiled, that same warm, almost gentle expression on his face.

Max forced himself to maintain composure, though every instinct in his body screamed at him to retreat. Standing before someone whose power he couldn’t even sense felt like standing on the edge of an endless abyss. His hands tightened slightly around the Blue Dragon Sword, not in aggression but in reflex, as if gripping the weapon could anchor his trembling soul.

He bowed slightly, keeping his tone respectful and cautious. “Senior, thank you for saving my life.” His voice was steady on the surface, but deep within, his heart thudded violently against his ribs.

The handsome young man looked at him with calm amusement, as though seeing through every thought and emotion Max was trying to suppress. His smile widened, carrying a warmth that contrasted sharply with the terrifying aura he exuded moments before. “Little guy, I saved your life, don’t you plan to repay me?”

Max’s body stiffened instantly. For a brief moment, it felt as though the entire cave froze over. He opened his mouth, but words seemed stuck in his throat. Eventually, he forced out a reply, his tone hesitant and uneven. “Senior has great magical powers and incredible strength… why… why would you need help from me?”

The thought clawed at him, ’What could someone of Divine Rank possibly need from me, a mere peak Master Rank expert?’

His mind flashed with the warnings of his elders. The secret domain was supposed to restrict beings of Mythic Rank from entering. And yet, here one stood before him, a Divine Rank expert, as effortlessly as if he belonged here. It was a terrifying contradiction.

But the young man—no, the general—just laughed softly, his expression relaxed and disarming. “You don’t need to fear me. I mean no harm. I simply want your assistance in something.”

Max’s breathing slowed slightly, but the tension didn’t ease. He took a step back instinctively, shaking his head. “Senior… this junior’s strength isn’t worth mentioning. I’m afraid I won’t be of much use to you. Someone of your status could easily seek assistance from the many 3-star geniuses in this domain. They would gladly serve you.”

Even as he spoke, Max’s mind was racing. ’If he attacks me, I’ll have to use Infernal Demon Transformation immediately.’

The thought circled in his head like a coiled serpent, his energy quietly stirring in preparation for an all-out battle—though he doubted it would change anything if this man truly wanted to kill him.

The general’s smile didn’t falter. If anything, it deepened, but not in mockery—rather in quiet assurance. “But I specifically need your help. You wouldn’t refuse me… would you?” His voice was soft, but the weight behind those words was overwhelming, like a mountain pressing against Max’s chest.
