Chapter 876: Suppressing The Yin Energy

Max blinked, startled. ’He wants me to suppress a Yin Cave eruption?’

He looked again at the swirling energy coming out of the black hole, feeling its dense and terrifying Yin power. Even standing at a distance, the pressure was enough to make his limbs slightly numb.

Doubt crept into his mind. ’Can my black flames even handle something like this?’

The general noticed his hesitation and chuckled softly, his voice carrying the calm of someone who had already foreseen this reaction. “Do not worry. I have a special method to suppress the explosive nature of the Yin Cave and regulate the outflow of Yin energy. I only need you to stabilize it further with your black flames. Although your black flames is also of yin origin, it should be able to suppress the yin energy from the yin cave because of the nature of the black flames.”

He added. “Not only will you remain safe, but this Yin energy will nourish your body and mana. If all goes well, you might even break through and reach the Champion Rank.”

Those last words made Max’s heart pound. ’Breakthrough to Champion Rank?’

Over the past several days, he had fought fierce battles, nearly, and been chased across half the valley by that terrifying woman, Nell. Those experiences had shown him the overwhelming gap between himself and experts in the late stages of the Legend Rank.

Even with all his trump cards, he had nearly been cornered and killed. He needed strength—real, overwhelming strength—to stand at the top and no longer be someone else’s prey.

The Yin Cave was dangerous, yes, but so was staying weak. And besides, this general was right in front of him, a being so powerful he could erase him with a flick of his finger if he wanted. Did he really have a choice?

Max took a deep breath, suppressing his hesitation, and met the general’s gaze seriously. “Since Senior has said so, there is no reason for me to refuse. I will do my best to help suppress the power of the Yin Cave.”

“Very good. You can rest assured, you helped me this time, and I will certainly lend you a helping hand in the future.” The general nodded with satisfaction, his tone calm but carrying a strange depth that made Max feel a faint chill down his spine. His words carried weight, as though they were a promise engraved into fate itself.

Max forced a small smile, his heart uneasy but his face respectful. “Thank you, senior.”

“Okay, use all your strength and display the black flames,” the general ordered, waving his hand casually, but his gaze was focused and sharp, leaving no room for refusal.

Since he had already agreed, Max no longer hesitated. He stepped toward the entrance of the Yin Cave, inhaled deeply, and activated his black flames. The familiar dark power erupted from his body, engulfing his arms first before expanding outward.

A thick, sky-piercing pillar of black fire bloomed above him like a demonic lotus, casting long shadows on the stone walls of the Hidden Sound Valley. Under Max’s control, the flames condensed and tightened into a single concentrated sphere before he directed it toward the Yin Cave below.

The moment the black flames touched the Yin Cave’s surface, the cold and suffocating Yin energy around it noticeably weakened. The overwhelming chill that had made even Max’s bones stiff moments ago seemed to disperse slightly, leaving the area feeling less oppressive.

“Very good,” the general said with a slight nod, his voice filled with satisfaction. His figure blurred slightly as he stepped to the very edge of the cave and extended one palm downward.

Max’s eyes involuntarily widened as he felt the pressure in the air suddenly spike. A force so terrifying it made his soul tremble erupted from the general’s hand. Yet, strangely, it was contained perfectly, not spilling wildly like most overwhelming auras. It was precise, condensed, and terrifyingly controlled, gathering into a single, immovable layer over the Yin Cave.

Then, the general lowered his hand, pressing it lightly over the mouth of the cave.

“Buzz… buzz… buzz…”

A deep vibration rang through the cavern walls as the Yin energy erupted violently. The Yin mana surged upward like a volcanic explosion of icy power, colliding with the general’s palm. The ground trembled beneath Max’s feet as he struggled to keep his balance.

From the depths of the Yin Cave, black Yin mana rose like a living tide, thick and viscous like molten ink. Its purity was astonishing, almost tangible, and even possessed an unsettling spirituality, as if it were alive and watching him.

But the general did not falter. Under his palm, the erupting Yin energy was tamed and directed into his body. Max could only watch in silent shock as streams of pure Yin essence disappeared into the general as easily as water flowing into a bottomless well.

The sight left Max speechless. ’This… this is power beyond anything I’ve seen.’ He could feel it clearly—just one strand of that Yin mana, if it had struck him, would have frozen his soul and shattered his body instantly. Yet, the general absorbed it as casually as a man drinking tea, without the slightest sign of strain.

However, after only the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Max’s expression hardened. His black flames flickered, and cold sweat slid down his back as he noticed the change.

The Yin mana erupting from the cave was no longer smooth streams but thick, dense clusters of power, each one far stronger than the last. Even though most of the Yin energy was still being absorbed by the general, small portions leaked out. Just these fragments of stray Yin energy were enough to make Max feel as though invisible ice had seeped into his veins, chilling his body from the inside out.

“Buzz.”

He quickly circulated his black flames, covering his entire body like a blazing suit of armor, isolating himself from the increasingly chilling Yin energy surging out of the cave.

However, the moment he did, Max’s expression darkened. ’My mana?’ he thought in alarm as he noticed the shocking speed at which it was being drained. The black flames were like a bottomless pit, constantly devouring his reserves just to suppress the Yin energy’s invasive chill.

The consumption rate was far beyond his expectations—ten times, no, a hundred times faster than usual. His mana was vanishing like water pouring out of a cracked jar.
