Chapter 879: Getting Out
Chapter 879: Getting Out
As he spoke, the general’s hands moved fluidly, fingers curling and spreading like a predator’s claws. A burst of dense black light erupted from his palms, flowing like liquid shadows to wrap around the fish-shaped spirit.
With a deep hum— “Om—”— the spectral fish trembled, its body shimmering in resistance. Though unintelligent, the Yin Cave spirit instinctively recognized the danger, and its raw survival instinct erupted like a tidal wave.
Dark Yin power surged violently from its body, and the air thickened under the oppressive coldness. The very Yin Cave trembled, resonating with the spirit’s desperate struggle, and the entire rocky chamber quaked as if about to collapse.
Max flinched at the rising waves of Yin energy and looked toward the cave’s mouth, where black mist rolled in furious tides. The shaking was growing stronger, and small stones fell from the jagged ceiling.
“Quick, use your black flames to weaken its power!” the general barked, his voice sharp but unwavering even as his fingers tightened like iron around the struggling spiritual body.
Max responded without hesitation. His eyes hardened, and with a deep breath, he summoned his black flames to their peak. Instantly, his entire body ignited in that deathly hue, like a figure of destruction cloaked in shadowy fire. The intense black flames roared outward, blazing toward the captured spirit and enveloping it with a suffocating heat that suppressed its Yin essence.
A loud hiss erupted as the black flames made contact. The spectral fish thrashed violently, its body twisting and distorting under the restraining force, but it was no use. The black flames—pure, domineering, and innately suppressive of all Yin attributes—ate away at its power like fire melting snow.
Almost immediately, the Yin turbulence in the cavern began to calm. The ground still trembled, but the violent surges threatening to burst from the cave’s mouth slowed and became manageable.
“Good, just like that,” the general said, his voice noticeably more relaxed now. “Keep suppressing it… I will erase its consciousness completely.”
The lines of black patterns on his jade-like face glimmered as he poured more power into his grip, weaving strange runic lights from his fingers. A terrifying spiritual pressure filled the space as he locked the Yin Cave spirit in place, forcing it to submit.
“Buzz… buzz… buzz…” The captured spirit quivered in agony, black ripples surging chaotically from its small body. It still tried to break free, but each violent thrash only caused more of its essence to burn away under Max’s black flames.
Max narrowed his eyes, focusing intently on holding the black flames steady. Even for him, this was exhausting, but seeing the spirit’s strength diminishing made him grit his teeth and endure it.
The general’s aura darkened, more tyrannical than ever. “Once I erase its consciousness, this spirit will become a pure Yin essence. For my kind…” He glanced at Max with a knowing smirk, “…it is a supreme tonic. Otherwise, I would not have gone to such great lengths to find it here in secret domain.”
With one final pulse of his power, the general’s hands emitted an eerie light, and a deep, resonant hum filled the chamber as he began to tear the spiritual consciousness from the Yin Cave spirit. Its cries grew weaker and weaker, finally reduced to faint shivers in his grip.
Max could only stare at the scene, a mix of awe and shock swirling in his chest. This was power beyond ordinary imagination—refining the will of a spiritual entity with bare hands, suppressing the essence of an ancient Yin Cave like it was nothing.
Even so, he kept feeding his black flames into the process, unwilling to slack off even for a moment.
After a while, the violent struggle of the Yin Cave spirit weakened, its form trembling lightly before falling completely still. With a soft, almost inaudible sound, the spiritual body shrank and merged into the general’s palm, disappearing entirely as though it had never existed.
“Huh…” The general exhaled slowly, his voice carrying relief and satisfaction. Having successfully refined the spirit, he immediately turned toward the Yin Cave itself. Raising both hands, his palms glowed with deep black light as he gripped the very air, pulling at the Yin essence that poured endlessly from the cave’s core.
Max felt it instantly—the biting cold in the air was fading, the oppressive Yin energy that once made Hidden Sound Valley so eerie and chilling was rapidly dissipating. The shadows clinging to the rocks, the gloomy mist covering the ground, and even the strange cold wind that whistled through the valley were all weakening.
It became obvious to Max that the valley’s terrifying environment was largely due to the Yin Cave’s existence. Now, with both the Yin Cave’s spirit refined and its power being absorbed, this notorious place would soon be no different than an ordinary valley.
“Alright.” The general straightened, brushing his hands together as if he had finished the simplest of chores. The lingering negative energy around his body began to fade, and the black lines covering his jade-like face receded, leaving behind his earlier appearance—handsome, calm, and noble.
If Max hadn’t witnessed everything himself, he would have found it impossible to believe this man was actually a Zombie King, a Divine Rank being of unimaginable power.
Max was still marveling at the scene when the general turned to him and asked, “Boy, what’s your name?”
“Max,” he answered quickly, his tone respectful but steady.
“Max, huh? Good. This time, I was able to refine the Yin Cave and its spirit entirely because of your help.” The general’s gaze softened, and for the first time, he spoke with solemn sincerity. “I will remember this favor and repay it in the future.”
Max shook his head hurriedly, saying, “Senior, you’re being too polite. Not only did you save my life, but you also gave me an opportunity to reach the peak of my realm. I should be the one thanking you.”
The general gave a deep, satisfied smile. “Good. I like people like you who understand gratitude and repay kindness.” He waved his sleeve lightly, his voice filled with ease and authority. “Come, let’s leave this place.”
Max nodded without hesitation, casting one last glance at the now-quiet Yin Cave before following the general out of Hidden Sound Valley.
