Chapter 881: Pure Yang Mountain

The rat paused for a moment, glanced up at him, then rolled its bright eyes mischievously and stretched out its small claws. Max could practically feel its intent.

“Greedy rat,” he muttered with a helpless laugh, before taking out two additional beast cores of the fifth level of Legend Rank and tossing them over. Only then did the little rat nod in satisfaction and sit by the entrance of the cave like a tiny guardian, still nibbling happily on its payment.

Max smiled faintly, reassured, then sat cross-legged once again. With a flip of his palm, a dark blue book appeared in his hand, its surface faintly glowing with mysterious energy. This was the technique he had obtained from Jake—the One Step Mile.

He placed the book gently in front of him, his eyes filled with determination. “Time to master this.”

After his intense battle with the woman named Nell from the Void Soul Tower, Max’s determination solidified like steel. He had realized during their clash how terrifying a true speed expert could be, and how dangerous it was to be on the slower end of such a fight. That day, he made up his mind—he would master the movement technique he had obtained from Jake, the One Step Mile, no matter how long it took.

Max believed that once he perfected this technique, combined with his own speed-enhancing abilities, his movement speed would easily reach the peak of Legend Rank, perhaps even surpass it in certain bursts. The thought alone filled him with a fiery excitement and urgency.

With that resolve, Max entered his Dimension of Time, where time flowed many times faster than the outside world. Inside, he immersed himself completely in training, focusing solely on comprehending every subtle detail of the One Step Mile—its unique footwork, its energy circulation, and the strange balance it required between explosive power and delicate control.

Days inside passed like water through a broken jar, and soon ten days had gone by—ten days inside the Dimension of Time, equivalent to several centuries of outside effort.

In the real world, it had been one and a half months since Max had stepped into the secret domain.

At this moment, Max stood inside the Dimension of Time, surrounded by shimmering mana lights that circled him like ribbons of rainbow silk. His steps blurred with afterimages as he tested the perfected footwork, his movements appearing like flowing water and at times like flashes of lightning.

When he finally stopped, those rainbow lights condensed into sharp, scale-like patterns under his feet before dissipating into nothingness.

Max opened his eyes, a proud smile spreading across his face. After ten days of tireless effort, or rather years within this isolated dimension, he had finally pushed the One Step Mile to perfection.

He could now traverse entire stretches of land with a single step, moving faster than most peak Legend Rank experts could even perceive. This mastery brought him newfound confidence, both in his survival and his killing ability.

“Squeak!”

The familiar cry pulled him from his thoughts. The little Treasure-Seeking Rat had scurried over, its big, round eyes sparkling as it stretched out its tiny paws toward him, clearly demanding its reward—elixirs or beast cores, as usual.

Max stared at it speechlessly, rubbing his forehead. “You… seriously, are you ever full? Even if I had a spiritual medicine garden with endless herbs, I doubt I could keep up with your appetite.” Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to refuse. This greedy little guy, after all, was the key to finding treasures and elixirs in this dangerous secret domain.

With a resigned sigh, Max pulled out ten fifth-rank Legend Rank beast cores and handed them over. The little Rat squeaked happily, hugging the cores like precious jewels before digging in voraciously.

Max, however, couldn’t help but notice something else. “Hey… wait a second. You leveled up?” His eyes narrowed as he focused on the aura radiating from the little creature. Sure enough, it had grown significantly stronger, its energy now that of a fourth-level Legend Rank beast.

The little Rat paused long enough to nod proudly before continuing to munch on the cores, clearly placing food above all else, including Max himself.

Max let out a laugh that was half amused and half envious. First it was Blob, his spirit, awakening mysterious powers through “metamorphosis,” and now even this little Rat was advancing effortlessly just by eating beast cores. ’Truly, gods favor some species far too much,’ he thought bitterly.

Still, he wasn’t about to let it laze around. “Alright, little guy, you’ve eaten. Now it’s time to work. Go find me more elixirs—we’re running low on beast cores because of you.”

The little Rat let out an indignant squeak, but in the end, it spun around and scampered out, its nose twitching as it began searching for new treasures. Max smiled faintly, then stood up, his body brimming with energy and confidence.

With One Step Mile perfected and the Rat ready to search for more opportunities, he was more prepared than ever to dominate this secret domain.

Two days later, following the sharp senses of the little Treasure-Seeking Rat, Max had already collected an impressive haul of spiritual medicines. The little creature had eaten so much that its round belly looked like it might burst, yet it still scurried around sniffing for treasures with boundless energy.

On the third day, Max decided it was time to move deeper into the secret domain. He picked up the little Rat, who squeaked in protest at being disturbed from its post-meal nap, and together they headed for the inner region.

According to the map given to him by the elders, their next destination was a place known as Pure Yang Mountain—a region famed for its scorching yang energy and rare yang-attributed treasures.

Pure Yang Mountain lay far to the east of the inner area of the secret domain, and it took Max two full days of travel before he finally stood at its borders. Though called a “mountain,” it was, in truth, an enormous mountain range stretching more than ten miles across, its peaks stabbing into the sky like the backs of sleeping giants.

The entire range was covered in dense, lush vegetation, while the roars and howls of powerful beasts echoed from within, a natural warning to any unprepared intruder.
