Chapter 888: Acting like Oriole agan?
But he quickly suppressed that impulse, his killing intent vanishing as fast as it came. He knew very well that with his current strength, killing Nell was no simple task. Even though her strength had dropped back to the 7th level of the Legend Rank, she was still dangerous, and she had two helpers at her side.
A reckless move would not only fail to kill her but might also expose him and ruin his own plans for the Pure Yang Flower.
Then his gaze shifted slightly, falling on Arnold and his companions. The three members of the Thunder Monarch Hall stood with expressionless faces, but Max’s sharp eyes caught a subtle flicker in their eyes.
Something about the way they looked at Nell and her companions made his heart move, and slowly, an almost predatory sneer curled at the corner of his lips. ’This could turn interesting,’ he thought.
Sure enough, a voice as cold as ice cut through the tense silence. Devon, his face dark and his tone unyielding, stepped forward slightly and said, “Three of you, the three-headed black dragon has already been reserved by our Thunder Monarch Hall. You can leave now.” His words carried no room for discussion, the pride of the Thunder Monarch Hall evident in every syllable.
Nell, however, merely chuckled. A soft, mocking sound escaped her red lips as she swayed her slender waist and stepped forward with deliberate grace. Her delicate hand brushed over her lips, covering her slight smile as she said, “Hehe, what this senior brother says is really amusing. Isn’t the three-headed black dragon doing quite well where it is? How exactly have you reserved it?” Her tone was laced with ridicule, the faint glimmer in her eyes clearly enjoying the confrontation.
Then her eyes moved past Devon, locking onto Arnold among the three. She blinked slightly, feigning surprise, and said with a silky voice, “Oh, isn’t this Junior Brother Arnold from the Thunder Monarch Hall? You’re even more handsome than the rumors say. I’m so lucky to meet you here.” Her words were sweet, but the subtle sharpness in her gaze suggested she was probing for a reaction.
Arnold, however, didn’t show the slightest hint of fluster. His expression remained calm, his voice even and indifferent as he replied, “You three want to subdue the three-headed black dragon, right? We can give it to you.”
“Really?” Nell’s eyes lit up, her red lips curving in satisfaction. “Junior Brother Arnold, you must keep your word and not compete with me.” Her voice had a playful tenderness to it, almost as if she believed she had won the argument with a single flirtatious glance.
But behind Arnold, Devon and Rick stiffened, their eyes widening slightly in alarm. “Junior Brother Arnold?” Devon muttered, disbelief in his tone.
Rick also opened his mouth as if to object, but Arnold tilted his head slightly and moved his lips in a quick whisper only they could hear. Whatever he said made both men shut their mouths immediately, though their eyes still flickered with unease.
Nell’s brow furrowed slightly at the silent exchange, but she didn’t comment. She only heard Arnold say aloud in the same calm tone, “Of course. Please, do as you please. However, I should warn you—Senior Brother Kyle from our Thunder Monarch Hall will be arriving soon. If you intend to subdue the three-headed black dragon, I suggest you hurry.”
The name fell like a hammer. “Kyle?” Nell and her two companions stiffened, their faces changing instantly. Even Nell, who had worn a confident smile up until that moment, couldn’t entirely hide her surprise. The name “Kyle” clearly carried weight, enough to make even the Void Soul Tower members pause.
The yellow-faced young man and the long-faced young man hesitated for a brief moment, their gazes flickering between the three-headed black dragon and the three experts from the Thunder Monarch Hall.
Their hesitation was quickly cut short when Nell, her expression dark and eyes flashing with stubborn determination, rolled her eyes and said through gritted teeth, “Two senior brothers, this three-headed black dragon is at the peak of the Legend Rank. Even if we cannot subdue it alive, if we kill it, the core in its body will be a priceless treasure for us.”
Her words struck a chord with them instantly. As members of the Void Soul Tower, they practiced paths considered unorthodox, paths that often required rare and sinister materials. A beast core from a three-headed black dragon, a peak Legend Rank variant no less, would be an unmatched resource, perfect for their practice methods. Both men’s hesitation melted away, replaced by excitement, their eyes lighting up with greedy anticipation.
Seeing their reaction, Nell turned back, her whip swaying lazily in her hand as she looked at Arnold and his companions with a soft smile that masked her cunning intentions. “Three senior brothers,” she said sweetly, “why don’t you join us? We only want the three-headed black dragon, and as for the Pure Yang Flower, it belongs entirely to you three. On top of that, we are willing to subsidize you with a few additional beast cores as compensation.”
For a moment, Devon looked intrigued, his expression flickering with interest at the offer. But before he could speak, Arnold’s voice cut sharply through the air, his tone indifferent yet absolute. “The Pure Yang Flower is useless to us. What we want is the Three-Headed Black Dragon.”
Nell’s smile stiffened at his outright rejection, her beautiful eyes flashing with a hint of resentment as she stared at Arnold. She had expected at least a discussion, maybe some form of compromise, but Arnold’s unwavering tone left no room for negotiation. Her lips curved into a faint sneer, and she muttered under her breath, “That’s a shame.”
Straightening her posture, she addressed her two companions, her voice colder now. “Two senior brothers, these three-headed black dragons are strong enough to make even these Thunder Monarch Hall experts hesitate. That means it’s extremely powerful. We must be cautious.”
Both the yellow-faced and long-faced young men nodded solemnly, stepping into position at Nell’s left and right as they walked toward the pool. The three of them moved with deliberate care, clearly confident but not reckless, their eyes locked on the terrifying beast ahead.
Arnold and his two companions remained where they were, simply watching with cold, detached eyes. There was no intention in their body language to step forward and assist; it was as though they were waiting to see what would happen, silently judging Nell and her companions’ ability.
